Pet Travel Scheme Update

For many years pet owners have benefited from the Pet Travel Scheme, enabling them to take their pet dogs and cats to the European Union and return to the UK with an EU Pet Passport.
With impending UK exit from the EU on 31st October 2019, we hope that the current arrangements will roll over. However, in the event of a "no deal" Brexit, there will be significant changes to pet travel requiring additional preparation of your pet and different paperwork.
In a no deal Brexit situation the UK will become an unlisted third country to the EU.
A UK issued pet passport will become an invalid document. Your pet will need a microchip, a Rabies vaccination and show an adequate Rabies antibody titre based on a blood sample taken at least 30 days post vaccine. A three month wait is then required post blood sample before entry into the E.U is permitted. We advise preparing your pet at least 4 months before anticipated travel.
If you are concerned that Brexit may affect your future travel plans then please speak to one of our vets or follow the link below.
