Legislation is changing and by April 2016 it will be a legal requirement in Scotland to have your dog microchipped, (identichipped), and registered on an authorised database.

•How does microchipping work?
An identichip is a microchip, about the size of a grain of rice, that has a specific barcode which is registered against you and your pet’s details on a central database. The barcode is read by a scanner, which is held by veterinary practices, rescue centres and the police.
•How is it placed into my pet?
The chip is implanted via a needle under the skin between your pet’s shoulders. Although the needle is a little larger than needles used for routine injections it is generally well tolerated.
•What benefits does microchipping bring?
Having your pet identichipped has made a huge difference in being able to reunite pets with their owners. By becoming compulsory for all dogs it will also help tackle puppy farming, reporting of hereditary health problems in pedigree animals and encouraging responsible ownership.
