We see many cats in our clinics who are suffering from illnesses directly related to stress, most commonly cystitis and skin disease.
An important aspect of treating these conditions involve reducing any stress that the cat may be suffering. As part of stress control management, we use pheremone diffusers and the manufacturer of one of these, Feliway, has brought out a new product to help with certain situations.
This new product is called Feliway Friends which differs from the Feliway Classic.
Feliway Classic is a synthestic copy of the feline facial pheromone which cats leave behind
when they rub their faces on doorways, peoples’ legs and furniture.
It is aimed to support cats in stressful situations and to help solve unwanted behavioural problems.
Feliway Friends is a copy of the cat appeasing pheromone which is naturally produced
by a nursing mother to her kittens after birth. The pheromone helps the kittens feel safe and secure and to promote the bond between them and their mother.
It is aimed to reduce tension and conflict problems within multi-cat households.
Top Tips for Reducing Cat Conflict
(1) Seperate their resources
(2) Have multiple resources
(3) A litter tray each, plus one additional
(4) Their own places high up
(5) Easy access to outdoors
(6) Make quality time for each cat
(7) Use Feliway Friends
On the Feliway website they have a mock-up house which you can place food, water, litter trays to see if they’re in the right place and have enough etc. Head over to www.feliway.com/uk to take a look.
